Media release: Ottawa Tourism celebrates frontline tourism industry at Shine On Awards

OTTAWA, March 6, 2025 — Yesterday evening, Ottawa Tourism welcomed hundreds of members of the local tourism community for the third annual iteration of the Shine On Awards to recognize customer service excellence and celebrate the frontline tourism industry. The event was held at the Canadian Museum of History and included a networking event attended by Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, followed by an awards presentation.

Award presenters included Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, Stefanie Siska, C’est Bon Ottawa Co-owner, President and General Manager and Ottawa Tourism Board Chair; and Geneviève Dumas, Incoming Board Chair of the Ottawa Gatineau Hotel Association and General Manager of the Fairmont Chateau Laurier.

The Shine On Awards were developed by Ottawa Tourism to recognize excellent service in all areas of frontline hospitality. A panel of industry experts evaluated the nominations that were collected during the 2024 calendar year and decided on the winners for each category, as well as a final Shine On Grand Prize Winner for customer service excellence.

The following winners were recognized for their exceptional service:

Madison Roszell-Johnston, from Beyond the Pale Brewery, in the “Exceptional Leader” category.
Pirami Anandasundaram, from Andaz Ottawa ByWard Market, in the “Exceptional Service: Hotel” category.
Elisabeta Jurca, from The Westin Ottawa, in the “Exceptional Service: Heart of House” category.
Raphaël Fitzgerald-Biernath, from the Fairmont Château Laurier, in the “Exceptional Service: Guest Relations” category.
Robin Courtiade, from Parc Omega, in the “Exceptional Service: Restaurant/Culinary” category.
Colin Lemire, from the Royal Canadian Mint, in the “Exceptional Service: Shopping/Tour Services” category.
Sarah Lightizer, from the Holiday Inn and Suites Kanata, in the “Exceptional Service: Festival/Banquet/Event” category.
Roxanne Eisener, from the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group, in the “Exceptional Service: Attraction” category.

“Il s’appelle Robin, il a 28 ans…il ne souhaitait pas marcher dans les pas de son Grand-Père Michel Maître d’Hôtel, et encore moins suivre le chemin étoilé empreinté par son Père Denis…mais, rien ne sert de lutter contre son destin quand on tombe dans la marmite dès son plus jeune âge…Après l’obtention de son BTS Hôtellerie – Restauration option B au Lycée Guillaume Tirel à Paris, Robin part au Canada afin de suivre sa propre quête d’identité professionnelle. C’est dans le grand nord du Québec qu’il posera ses valises, à la Pourvoirie du Cap au Leste, il y restera 2 ans et 6 six mois en qualité de Maitre d’Hôtel …mais la neige abondante et constante a eu raison de sa motivation…il lui fallait retrouver le soleil…après un passage au Jules Verne à Paris ; c’est dans le Sud de la France qu’il fera deux nouvelles saisons en qualité de serveur, à Monaco, puis à Nice… et de nouveau, l’appel des grands espaces s’est fait entendre, le Canada, oui, mais avec moins de neige dira t’il…la détermination de Robin le pousse donc à repartir à Montebello cette fois-ci au Parc Omega, Parc animalier en plein développement de gamme hôtelière et d’offres de restauration. Robin prend la direction de l’un des restaurants du site pour le structurer et le faire connaître… son enthousiasme, son professionnalisme et sa bienveillance font que le restaurant atteint très vite ses objectifs et c’est tout naturellement que le nom de Robin apparait sur une liste de 120 prétendants à l’Office du Tourisme d’Ottawa pour la sélection des prix 2024-25 dans la catégorie “Service Exceptionnel : restaurants et gastronomie” … Robin est un compétiteur, il le sait, ses deux prix de Champion de France en équitation en 2011 et 2012 parlent pour lui… Après une audition devant un jury d’experts, Robin est sélectionné dans la dernière “short list” avec deux autres candidats…et c’est lors de la cérémonie officielle à Ottawa, ce mercredi 5 mars 2025, que Robin est appelé sur la scène afin de recevoir son premier Prix du Service…Il s’appelle Robin Courtiade, et nous sommes fiers de lui…”
